Choosing scuba diving equipment

If you're looking at buying scuba diving equipment this can often be
quite daunting experience. Obviously apart from travelling to your
destinations, buying the actual equipment is the most expensive part of
the sport. You will at the least need the basic equipment to get you
started. Whether you choose to buy this brand new or second-hand really
depends on your budget but you should always ensure you're getting quality
as safety is your number one concern.

Here are some of the essential pieces of scuba diving equipment you'll
need when starting out:

Wet Suit - your wetsuit is a vital piece of equipment that stops the body
from getting too cold whilst you dive. It also helps to protect the body
from scraping against rocks or reefs.

Mask - your mask basically allows you to see clearly while underwater.
It is therefore very important to get a tightfitting mask that is
comfortable and doesn't allow any water to enter and obstruct your vision.
There are many different types you can choose from but having one that
allows a wide field of view and is comfortable to wear is essential.

The Regulator - the regulator is a piece of equipment that attaches to
your oxygen tank at one end and the other end is placed into your mouth to
allow you to breathe underwater. The regulator's main function is to
reduce the high-pressure oxygen to a level that allows you to breathe
naturally. Choosing the regulator that is comfortable to breathe through
is very important.

Fins or Flippers - your fins attached to your feet and allow you to swim
through the water with the greatest of ease. They allow you to swim using
far less energy than you would normally but still allow for the same
movement under water.

If you choose to buy your scuba diving equipment second-hand then you
should always get it checked out by a qualified person before putting it
to use. Even if the item looks good and seems to work okay the last thing
you want is for something to fail while you are hundreds of feet under
water. Safety is always the number one priority when scuba diving and
should never be overlooked. So stay safe and enjoy your diving.
